COLOMBO : On 20th May 2024, Tower Hall in Colombo was abuzz with excitement and pride as Queensway International Girls School celebrated its 20th anniversary with a grand ceremony attended by Principal, Board Members, Teachers, Students, parents, and distinguished guests.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Ms. Ajra Azhar, Attorney-at-Law, National Representative of the Young Lawyers Committee of the International Bar Association, and Director of Colombo Associates, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In her inspiring speech, Ms. Ajra Azhar emphasized the importance of financial independence for women and girls, highlighting it as a critical step towards achieving equality and empowerment. She urged the young students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, to aspire for greatness despite the obstacles they might face. “Financial independence is not just about having money; it’s about having the freedom to make choices and the power to shape your own future,” she stated passionately.
Ms. Ajra also spoke on the significance of core values such as integrity, perseverance, and continuous learning. She shared her own journey, illustrating how these values have been instrumental in her career as a lawyer and an entrepreneur. “In every step of your life, hold on to your values. They will guide you through challenges and lead you to success,” she advised.
The celebration was marked by a series of performances by the students, showcasing their talents in music, dance, and drama. The school’s achievements over the past two decades were celebrated with a sense of pride and accomplishment. A special journal was released, chronicling the milestones and memories of the school’s journey, which has been a beacon of excellence in education for girls.
The event also had the honor of welcoming Ms. Shabra, Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Ms. Gamage, Officer of the Zonal Education Office, Western Province, as the Guests of Honour.
The Principal of Queensway International Girls School, in her speech, acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Board of Management and Teachers and the unwavering support of the parents in making the school a nurturing ground for young girls to thrive. “Our mission has always been to provide quality education and to empower our students to become confident, capable, and compassionate individuals,” she said.
As Queensway International Girls School embarks on its next chapter, the spirit of empowerment and excellence continues to shine brightly.
