COLOMBO : Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa told parliament on Wednesday that permission will be granted for burial of the Covid infected dead bodies.
The premier was esponding to a question raised by SJB MP S.M Marikka in parliament on the matter of Covid burials, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse replied that such burials would be permitted.
Marikkar raised the question in parliament pointing to an earlier statement made by Min. Sudharshini Fernandopulle on Tuesday that Covid-19 could not be transmitted via the water. Replying to this query, the PM confirmed that he would allow for burials to go ahead.
The question of the burying of Covid patients has been a point of contention for months, with the government holding firm on its position despite strong opposition both locally and internationally for a lack of a scientific basis for the decision.
