COLOMBO: In the beginning of May 2021, Muslim Aid commenced its emergency relief efforts to reach out to some of the most affected regions of the country struggling with the Covid-19 and subsequent lockdowns.
In response to the request of the District Secretary of Trincomalee – Saman Darshana Pandikorala, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka donated a bulk of dry ration packs to isolated GN divisions in Trincomalee District. An event was organized at the District Secretariat during which dry ration packs were handed over to GA office Trincomalee. This was carried out in coordination with the Non-Governmental organizations secretariat in Trincomalee; which was initiated and guided by the District Secretary.
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka handed over 675 dry ration packs, each worth LKR 3000, to the additional Government Agent Mr. J.S.Arul Raj at this event. All these packs were promptly handed over to the Asst. Divisional Secretary of Trincomalee Town & Gravets for distributing the packs to relevant affected GN divisions. The Chief Administration Officer – Mr. Jalaludeen, NGO Coordinator – K. Nirmalakanthan and MASL officer Mr. Ramees were present at this event.
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka continued its emergency relief efforts in the Trincomalee district by distributing dry ration packs to 700 vulnerable families in the first week of June 2021. The distributions took place in several villages, such as Thoppur, Allainagar, Allainagar East and Iqbal nagar. This distribution was supported by the Assistant Director Planning and Administration Officers from the Muthur DS Office and the Thoppur Disaster Management Centre (DMC) community.
Covid-19 relief efforts continued in Trincomalee with a further 485 dry ration packs distributed to vulnerable families in the Kuchaveli D.S division in the Trincomalee district. Dry ration packs were handed over to families from 4 villages, namely Caseem Nagar, Jayanagar, Pulmoddai and Irrakkandy. The Grama Niladhari (GN), Development Officer and the Village Community of the Kuchaveli D.S division facilitated the smooth implementation of the distributions.
While Muslim Aid Sri Lanka continues to engage in relief and aid work efforts to reach the most vulnerable and daily wage-earning families struggling with the pandemic and lockdown, the organization is implementing plans to strengthen public health emergency response services and facilities for the benefit of the public.
