COLOMBO: Seven years ago on this date, 7th July 2015, a book on the short but extraordinary life of Edward Henry Pedris- a National hero, was launched to mark his 100th Birth Anniversary.
The Edward Henry Pedris Commemorative Society, Commissioned veteran Journalist Charnika Imbulana Munasinghe to author the book.
In the first phase of its publication it was sold at the bookshop assigned for its distribution to the public. In the 2nd phase, it is envisaged to a unique distribution method that will facilitate for the book to reach every library of the island’s schools.
The 2nd phase of the distribution methodology has been planned on the initiation of the writer to ensure that it reaches the school children, so that it would awaken them to a period in history which has thus far not been given the attention that it warranted and such valuable information has not been provided in the school books targeted to the current generation.
For the commencement of the 2nd phase, she presented a book to Ajithe de Zoysa, the Head of the Board of Trustees of Musaeus College, Colombo 7. Musaeus College is the Author’s Alma Mater. With this launch, the book is set to be distributed to a plan to fulfill her initiative of ‘A book in each school library, island-wide’.
