COLOMBO ; Fouzul Hameed, Chairman of the Board of Governors Zahira College,Colombo , triumphantly secured yet another resounding victory, garnering an impressive total of 351 votes at the Special General Meeting of the OBA of the Colombo Zahira College held on Sunday May 12 at the college Ghaffoor Hall.
The Ghaffoor Hall brimmed to its utmost capacity, accommodating an assembly of over 500 members. Serenely, each member exercised their democratic right, conscientiously casting their votes in favor of their chosen candidates.
Following closely behind at the elections were Jawfer Saddique claimed 306 votes, with Nuzri Mansoor closely trailing with 299 votes to his credit
It is noteworthy that during a challenging period of uncertainty for Zahira, M. Fouzul Hameed demonstrated commendable leadership by courageously stepping forward to spearhead the revitalization efforts. With a decade-long tenure as the President of OBA and assuming the role of Chairman of the Board of Governors in 2006, Hameed’s commitment to Zahira’s welfare has been unwavering.
Under his guidance, Zahira College has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis, characterized by the introduction of modern facilities including the sprawling Mutuwappa and Al-Maktoom buildings, the rejuvenation of Ghafoor Hall, the establishment of new dining facilities, the construction of a state-of-the-art swimming pool complex, and the imminent completion of a Sports Complex. These milestones serve as tangible evidence of Hameed’s invaluable contributions to the institution’s enduring legacy
Under the visionary leadership of Fouzul Hameed, in tandem with the invaluable support of the principal, Triizvy Marikkar, a strategic vision for educational revitalization was conceived to elevate Zahira to premier status among the island’s educational institutions.
Presently, Zahira boasts an enrollment exceeding 5500 students across all three mediums of instruction, supported by a faculty complement of nearly 300.
Today, Zahira College stands as a beacon within the Muslim community, celebrated for its commitment to academic excellence. Its reputation is underlined by a surge in demand for admissions, affirming its status as a sought-after institution.
With a keen eye on inclusivity, Fouzul Hameed is actively exploring avenues to accommodate more students, including the prospective establishment of additional branch schools in the foreseeable future.
