COLOMBO : Minister of Justice Ali Sabry said here on Thursday that he expects to provide an opportunity for prisoners who have reported good behaviour to spend one week with their families in the near future.
The Minister made the observation during a discussion held Thursday,Sept,23 at the Welikada Prison headquarters with its senior officials.The minister visited the prisons during the demonstration of prisoners on the rooftop at the Welikade Prisons.
The minister stressed that temporary parole will only be granted to prisoners who have proven good behaviour during their jail term.
Minister Sabry explained that the Justice Minister is vested with powers under the Prisons Ordinance to grant leave for prisoners who have displayed good behaviour.
He said as per the Ordinance, leave can be granted only on the score of their satisfactory behaviour.
The Justice Minister further said he intends to implement this process as soon as possible, adding that the leave will be provided subject to conditions
