WC T20I 2022: Raza stars in Zimbabwe win against Ireland, England & India win warm up matches against Pakistan and Australia

HOBART:  Zimbabwe won by 31 runs against Ireland to take the second spot in the Group B points table. After setting a total of 174 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, Zimbabwe restricted the Irish men to 143 runs for the loss of 9 wickets off the 20 overs.  Sikander Raza played a brilliant knock of 82 runs off 48 deliveries and claimed one wicket for 22 runs to ensure Zimbabwe seal a well deserved victory. Raza was adjudged the man of the match.

The Group B points table is led by Scotland after their victory over West Indies earlier today. West Indies sit at the bottom of the points table with a negative net run rate of 2.1.

Warm up match – England Vs Pakistan

In the warmup matches played in Brisbane, between England and Pakistan, England played aggressively to reach the target set by Pakistan of 160 runs in the 15th over itself in a rain hit 19 over match. Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook and Sam Curran smashed 12 sixes between them to take England over the line. Brook stood unbeaten with 45 runs off 24 balls. Earlier in the Pakistan innings, Shan Masood hit 39 runs off 22 balls to help Pakistan reach 160 runs.

Warm up match – Australia Vs India

India edged past hosts Australia by 6 runs in the warm-up match between the sides at the Gabba in  Brisbane. India set a target of 186 runs with contributions by KL Rahul ( 57 runs off 33 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 33). Although Australian Finch with a scintillating 76 runs kept Australia in the hunt, Mohammad Shami’s 3 wickets in the last over saw Australia all out for 180 runs.

Sri Lanka will play the UAE tomorrow in the second round of matches in Group A in a must win encounter at 1.30 pm. Namibia will play against Netherlands at 9.30 am. A win by Namibia against Netherlands will keep hopes alive for Sri Lanka in this tournament.  (RZ)
