WC T20I 2022: Mendis, Hasaranga play key role as Sri Lanka qualify for Super 12


VICTORIA: Sri Lanka beat Netherland by 16 runs to enter the Super 12 from Group A. Sri Lankan bowlers managed to restrict Netherland to 146 for 9 wickets off the 20 overs to grab a victory which opens entry to the Super 12. Sri Lanka now stands at the top of the table with Netherland at second position.


Batting first Sri Lanka set a target of 162 runs for six wickets off the 20 overs. Kusal Mendis brilliant knock of 79 runs together with Asalanka’s 31 runs helped Sri Lanka to compile a formidable score. Opener Max O’ Dowd stayed unbeaten at 71 runs at the end of the chase but Netherland fell short by 16runs. Hasaranga bowled best for Lankans with 3 wickets for 28 runs while Theekshana picked up 2 for 32 runs.


Namibia will play UAE at 1.30 pm today. A win by Namibia will allow them to qualify since Namibia has a healthy NRR. (RZ).
