Vesak is the most significant full moon Poya day for Buddhists around the world. However, in Sri Lanka, Vesak has a unique identity that can be only witnessed in the island. It is a very special day for Sri Lankan Buddhists where they engage in Prathipaththi and Amisa Pooja.
Under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremsinghe the day is being spent throughout the isand with a new concept and new look with local and foreign participation. Countries such as Pakistan , India, Bangladesh ,Nepal,Thailand,Vietnam and Indonesia that have a Buddhist heritage back at home are represented at the Vesak zone at the Gangarama temple in Colombo.
