Vaccination against meningitis is compulsory for all Umrah pilgrims from Feb 1

COLOMBO : Pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah must be vaccinated against meningococcal disease from February 1 this year , according to the Kingdom’s General Authority For Civil Aviation

Meningococcal vaccine

• All pilgrims over one year old must have a valid vaccination certificate for the quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine 
• The vaccine must be received at least 10 days before travel 
• The conjugate vaccine is preferred because it’s associated with reduced carriage 
• The certificate should clearly indicate the type of vaccine and the date of vaccination
