COLOMBO: Two Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilake were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department yesterday in connection with the assault on peaceful protesters at Galle Face on May 9.
These two Parliamentarians have been arrested based on the Attorney General’s directive to the CID to arrest MPs provided that there are sufficient evidence of their involvement in the attack.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the CID had informed the Speaker that statements need to be recorded from seven Members of Parliament regarding the attack on protestors at Galle Face.
The CID yesterday recorded a statement from the Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon over the assault on peaceful protesters opposite Temple Trees and the Presidential Secretariat on May 9.
