Touring Briton dies in an accident  in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO : A British female tourist who met with an accident at Ella while travelling around the country by bicycle with a group died at the Badulla Hospital Tuesday,Nov 1, while receiving treatment.

The deceased is a 54-year-old woman named Julie Nicola Barker.

She had come to Sri Lanka for a visit on October 24.There were nine members of her team and all of them were British nationals. Along with two tour guides, they had started their trip around the country on bicycles from Negombo on October 24. The nine tourists rode bicycles and completed their journey on the first day at Kandy. On the second day, they had travelled to Nuwara Eliya and spent the night there. On the morning of October 28, they started their journey from Nuwara Eliya to Kataragama.

The police say that the woman was unable to control her bicycle and skidded while passing a steep slope in Karandagolla area on the Wellawaya road. She had injured her head in the accident that happened in front of the Karandagolla temple.

She was receiving treatment at the Badulla hospital until her demise on Tuesday.
