KANDY: The Hill Capital of Kandy was reverberated and vividly witnessed the action packed and the glamorous performances of the students of Wesswood International College, Katugastota, Kandy as its Annual Inter House Athletic Meet for 2024 was colorfully and competitively held at the Bogambara Stadium on Thursday 1st February 2024 under the auspices of the school Principal Mr. Chandrasiri, special guests, directors, teachers and parents. The National Athlete Mr. Aruna Darushana and the National Athletic Coach Mr. Asanka Rajakaruna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour at this momentous occasion of Wesswood that had its inception in 2007. This Sports Meet was successfully conducted under the guidance of the Chairman of Fazir Mohideen.
Thrivers under the colour of maroon were crowned as Champions for the second consecutive year with 611 points while Challengers under Yellow got the second spot collecting 574 points and the Blue House that fielded the Achievers were placed 2nd Runners up with 484 points. Invariably, the Sports Calendar of this boys’ school gives prominent and pride of place for the Annual Inter House Athletic Meet every year and it is held as the first major event at the start of 2024 winning the hearts and minds of the parents and other well- wishers. The cynosure of the Sports Meet was the splendid drill display showcased by the students of Grade 4 & 5 that was effectively coordinated by the Sectional Head Ms. Asna. Challengers House grabbed the first place for Decoration & Discipline while Achievers smartly won the award for the March Past.
The Vice Principal and the Prefect of Games Mr. A.L.M. Shiyam was instrumental in completing this Sports Meet with the active support of Mr. M.J.M. Fahad Jaufer, the other Vice Principal and the Meet Coordinator. They were ably supported by the Chief Recorder Mrs. Thilini Wattalagedera and the Assistant Coordinator Miss Asna Ismail. The Champion House, Thrivers were led by Senior House Warden Mrs. Ramlani Rizan while the Runners- up and the 2nd Runners-up were guided by Mrs. Asha K. Ambegoda and Ms. Zahara Niyas respectively. A large number of parents, old boys, fans and well-wishers thronged the stadium to witness the Showcase of Wesswood, a leading boys’ international school in Kandy.
