The Kandy Grand Mosque,Bogambara , All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) gift Rs 2.5 million worth electrical equipment, oxygen ports to the new Covid ward in Kandy

KANDY : The Kandy Grand Mosque,Bogambara and the Kandy branch of the All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) jointly gifted Rs 2.5 million worth electrical equipment and 75 oxygen ports to the 180 bed new Covid ward that is being constructed in Kandy Hospital.

The gift was formally handed over to Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella recently by the President of the The Kandy Grand Mosque,Bogambara,Afzal Marikar and Vice President of the Kandy branch of the All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Sheikh Omerdeen jointly , during the minister’s  maiden visit after he assumed duties as the minister of health in Colombo.

In his address the minister thanked  the  trustees of the Kandy grand Mosque ’as well as all the Donors who at a critical time volunteered to assist the hospital as usual. Further he appreciated that  this was a time the business community was badly hit but yet came forward to support the health sector.

 He also mentioned that in a times of crisis, the Muslim clergy were the first to meet the Mahanayakes and promote harmony among the communities in Kandy. He agreed that he will make efforts to implement the requests made by the Deputy director Kandy hospital  Dr  Eresha Fernando during a presentation about the activities and the requirements  of the Kandy National Hospital

The minister also reminded that he was one who had supported the Kandy general hospital to be named as the Kandy National Hospital and he was happy that he was appointed as the minister and that he could gladly develop  the facilities for the benefit of the public of Kandy in the future

The Director of the Kandy Hospital Dr Jayasekera in his address also thanked the Minister for his inaugural visit and also thanked all donors who came forward to support the completion of the new Covid ward. The Director General of health sevices Dr Asela Gunawardene and all senior health official s from the Ministry of Health participated in this function.

In his brief speech, Afzal Marikar said : “ We are experiencing a horrendous period never seen or heard during our lifetime. The sufferings of all people of all walks of life is just unimaginable. Anyway, he said amidst all difficulties , the trustees of the Kandy Grand  Mosque Bogambara and the Kandy branch of the ACJU together decided to pool their resources  to assist the health sector in their time of need.

Marikar also thanked  the excellent services rendered by the health sector and the defence forces to ease the burden of the patients and their families during this pandemic.
