COLOMBO : The Sri Lanka Police has appointed its first-ever Woman Deputy Inspector General (WDIG) of Police, by promoting former SSP Bimshani Jasin Arachchi to the post, the Police Media Unit stated here on Tuesday.
Upon the request and approval of the National Police Commission (NPC), Acting IGP Chandana Wickremeratne had submitted nine nominations to NPC Secretary Nishantha Weerasinghe.
The Police Media Unit in a statement issued yesterday noted that SSP Bimshani Jasin Arachchi, who was the Director of the Bureau For the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women, was prompted to the post of WDIG.
WDIG Bimshani Jasin Arachchi had joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1997 as an Inspector of Police and in 2017 was promoted to SSP.
