· NEGOMBO- The court, on Tuesday, withdrew the bail order granted to the former police officer, alleged to have killed a pet dog, which belonged to Human Rights activist, Brito Fernando, President of the Families of the Disappeared.
Negombo Chief Magistrate Rajeendra Jayasuriya cancelled the bail granted to retired police officer. Clement Fernando, who was arrested on May 5, who was alleged to have killed a pet dog of his neighbour. Fernando was remanded till May 29 by the court.
Early morning on Friday, May 5, Human Rights activist, Brito Fernando, President of the Families of the Disappeared, had let his pet dog for a walk in his area,” No sooner I had released my pet ‘Max’ than I heard a gunshot and then I jumped out of the house only to see the dog has been shot dead just near my house by someone,” Fernando told Colombo Times at the time of the incident.
Fernando was saddened and shocked by the death of his precious pet. He said it was not only his pet but also it was his good friend who kept guard against intruders to the house at nights.
The case was handled by Police Officer Udayakumara Woodler from the Negombo Police.
