COLOMBO:The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), has congratulated Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines for its excellent performance in the month of December 2021.
In a letter addressed to Ashok Pathirage, Chairman SriLankan Airlines, President of the TAASL, Sabry Bahaudeen said : “This is especially commendable considering, we are in a pandemic which never seems to end, creating a lot of uncertainty in the airline and travel industry worldwide.”
SriLankan Airlines reports a Company Profit of USD 9.25 million and a Group Profit of USD 10.66 million for December 2021, which is the first profitable month for the Airline since the onset of the Pandemic in early 2020. The revenues are up by almost 200% compared with the same period last year and has reached over 80% of the pre-pandemic level. Further, the Airline reports a profit of USD 11.43 million for December 2021 at Air Transportation level, which is the highest recorded profit from Air Transportation in over 20 years.
“ We commend the bold steps taken by SriLankan, under your leadership, in starting up new routes to Europe and Russia which has paid off. TAASL is grateful to SriLankan for taking these bold steps and opening up these tourism markets for the industry, by providing direct connectivity which is something most clients look for in these times,” Bahaudeen added.
The president thanked the chairman and his Colombo Team on behalf of the Travel Agents of Sri Lanka – for the exceptional and unwavering support shown to all travel agents in this nation, as well as the Sri Lankan travel industry as a whole, especially during the grueling pandemic times. “The profound commitment and dedication have been a steady strength to us,” he pointed out.
Concluding his appreciation, Bahaudeen thanked the SriLankan team and assured them his cooperation in its forward march.
