MUSCAT : Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad undertook a two day official visit to the Governorate of Al Buraimi, northwestern region of the Sultanate of Oman, from 21 – 22 November 2021.
He called on the Governor of Al Buraimi, Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed bin Saud Al Busaidi and held a productive bilateral meeting and presented a memorial logo issued to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman which falls this year.
During the visit, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad planted a sapling of Canistel fruit (egg fruit) grown in Sri Lanka together with the Wali of Al Buraimi Sheikh Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Habsi, at Saara Oasis which is a traditional irrigation system (Falaj) that brings water from 3,000 year old Falaj Al Sarrani in the region of Al Buraimi. The Sri Lankan fruit tree was planted at this historical oasis in Oman to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman. The manager of the Falaj al Saarani Eng. Talib Ahmed al Jabri was also present during this special occasion.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad also addressed the members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) – Al Buraimi branch and discussed ways and means to promote economic cooperation between the private sector companies in Sri Lanka and Buraimi region, utilizing the MoU recently signed between the national chambers of the two countries. The Ambassador also met the proprietors/representatives of leading labour recruitment agencies based in Buraimi and discussed mutual cooperation in labour recruitment and streamlining the recruitment process of Sri Lankan domestic workers.
Later in the evening, the Ambassador participated at a cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Muscat for the “Sri Lanka Ambassador’s Cup “among the Cricket teams in Al Buraimi, to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Oman. He presented the trophy to the winning Pakistani team. Director General of Health Services and the Senior Officials of the Royal Omani Police of Buraimi also participated in the cricket tournament.
Members of the Sri Lankan Community in Al Buraimi hosted a dinner in honor of the first ever official visit by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Al Buraimi region and presented a memento to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad
