Sri Lankan expats in Kuwait donate blood to help the sick in critical condition

N.U. ABDUL RAZZAK UDAYAR

KANDY – Apparently, money is the life blood of the people as it helps them in no small way  fulfilling the various needs of their day today life.

Is money everything? Blood itself can be the real life blood when it is willingly donated. Hence, donation and Volunteering are unmatched to money in terms of humanity. This was clearly witnessed in Kuwait as a large number of Sri Lankans thronged the city hospital to make their personal contributions of donation of blood to help some patients for their recovery.

A few days ago, the Central Blood Bank of Kuwait sent an SOS to four well recognized Sri Lankan Social Service Organizations based in Kuwait requesting to collect 50 pints of blood  to save some patients who were in critical condition.

This urgent request was namely extended to Iqura Islamic Committee (IIC), Kuwait Emergency Help Society (KEHS), Kuwait Union of Country Heroes (KUHS) and Saylaneese Helping Hands (SHHK)

The President of the Saylaneese Helping Hands, S.M. Aroos who was contacted by phone  mentioned that this urgent Lifesaving Blood Donation Drive was swiftly organized by all the four societies in response to this request . He further added, “For this urgent Blood Campaign, we got the request on the night of 7th April 2024. Then, all active members of our societies actively made the arrangements to have the camp on 12th April 2024 although it was the festive season and the time was too short. It was very productive as 94 pints of blood was collected via the donation where 95 percent of the donors were Sri Lankans. Indians and Pakistanis also joined us to make this programme a roaring success.”

A big salute should be given to all these Sri Lankan Social Service Societies that have further strengthened the rapport maintained between the Government of Kuwait and the expatriate community of Sri Lanka. This programme was effectively carried with the coordination of Dr. M.U.L.M.S. Nawras, MBBS, MCGP, MRCGP [INT] PG Diploma in Diabetes (Ireland), Fellowship in Diabetes (UK/IND) Family Medicine and Tobacco Treatment Specialist. This programme was held in coordination with the Jabriya Blood Bank of Kuwait. As a matter of fact, over hundred donors of Sri Lankans belonging to various races and religion dutifully donated their blood for this worthy cause for the sake of humanity.
