RIYADH- Since we achieved independence in 1948 no government had faced such a quick rejection on such a mass scale from the people the way this government had to face. Similarly, Sri Lankans have never experienced such hardship in the entire history of our motherland. In fact, having been elected by large popular votes we expected a big transformation for the betterment of the country and its people but never expected such a calamity so soon. We still wonder what and where it went wrong.
The Arabs in the Middle East had very high respect for our country and those who visited Sri Lanka on my recommendation returned to comment ‘We love Sri Lanka and it is our second home!’ and on their recommendation, many others chose our homeland for their honeymoon too. What is embarrassing for us Sri Lankans now is when these same people come and ask us ‘What happened to your country?’ This is not just limited to Arabs alone but every other national, soon after wishing us the good morning we know in advance what is to follow. We pray that most importantly our countrymen should be relieved of the agony they are undergoing now and from the embarrassment, we face from the other nationals here. God bless Sri Lanka! We wish a very happy Eid Al Fitr to our Muslim brothers and sisters.
