Sri Lanka twins to promote tourism

COLOMBO– Sri Lanka Twins Organization is to conduct a series of events promoting the talents of twins in the country during the month of July with a participation of over 4000 tourists, among which the majority will be twins who come to take part in the activities. This event has been endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

Briefing the media on Tuesday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo Upuli Gamage, Founder / Chairperson of Sri Lanka Twins Organization and Vice President of Global Twins Multiple Birth Forum said “This event series will carry a meaningful purpose as it mainly targets the economic growth of the country by covering several areas such as social, economic, culture and tourism. This will be an idyllic opportunity to promote Sri Lanka as an significant tourism destination, and renowned for its warm hospitality and iconic tourism attractions”.

She also told the media that the most attractive event of the series will be the Global Twins Ms. World Pageant, Mr. World Pageant and the Global Most Handsome Twin Couple competition. The grand finale is scheduled for July 26, at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre Colombo. “The event will pitch to gain international recognition for Sri Lanka to project it as the world’s first event of its nature that is initiated in Sri Lanka. A wide exposed tourist attraction is expected on this programme along with widespread promotion to be carried out by the organizers around the world through internet access. The first round of selecting the Sri Lankan contestants will be held on February 12. There will be around 30 countries scheduled to represent this event, and a large number of foreign visitors and their media representatives are expected to participate the occasion”.

Other events consists in the series are the Global Twins Cultural Festival on July 25, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium Colombo, Global Twins and Multiples Birth Forum on July 27 and Global Twins Business Forum on July 28 in Kandy with the final event a Global Twins Music Festival in Colombo on July 30.

Upuli Gamage said “the Sri Lanka Tourism had to endure crisis after crisis, starting from the Easter Sunday attacks. Despite of different thoughts on how Sri Lanka could emerge from this crisis, we cannot give up on the tourism sector no matter how many challenges it has to face. Economic, social, cultural and even political progress depends heavily on the influence of the tourism sector and on our part in contributing to the re-birth of this important sector; we have taken this step forward”.

Bahman Moazami, Cultural Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Chulananda Perera, Secretary Ministry of Tourism attended as Guest of Honour. Chalaka Gajabahu, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Deepthi Adikari, Deputy Director President Media Unit, Upuli Gamage and Chamali Gamage (pair of twins) Founder Chairperson and Founder Secretary / Vice Presidents of Global Twins Multiple Birth Forum, Maj. Mahinda Hettiarachchi Managing Director of Sri Lanka Twins Organisation, Shiranee Fernando Managing Director Geo Ventures Consultancy Pvt. Ltd, Dr.(Ms) Ineka Pitts Proprietor of the Ceylon Horse Riding Club at Colombo Port City, Suranga Silva Managing Director of Event Mate and representatives from Russian Cultural Centre, Embassy of the Republic of Afghanistan, Conciliate of Japan, Dialog Axiata PLC. were among the distinguished guests.

The Sri Lanka Twins Organization is the first and only Twins’ Organization functioning in Sri Lanka with a membership of 28,000 Twins consists of children, youth and elders with a countrywide representation from all 24 districts in the country.
