COLOMBO – The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka-Malaysian Business Council, led by its President Marshard Barry engaged in a productive dialogue with Badli Hisham Adam the Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka focusing on advancing trade and tourism initiatives between the two nations on Tuesday October 29.at the Malaysian Embassy premises..
The key discussion topics included the development of a mobile app to improve services for tourists featuring amenities such as, inbound travel, accommodation, halal dining, prayer areas including establishment of multi-faith cultural centers with hygienic facilities in popular tourist areas like Ella, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Hambantota.
At the request of the High Commissioner the Council explored organizing an exclusive golf tournament for Malaysian business delegates combining leisure with exploration of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty. Furthermore, there was a discussion about importing Malaysian-built vehicles that comply with Euro 4 standards, making them more affordable for Sri Lankans.
To facilitate travel and collaboration, the Council requested multi-entry visas for its members. They also sought to promote awareness of the Colombo Port City and its tax exemptions to attract Malaysian investors to Sri Lanka. Promoting Port City Colombo as an investment destination in Malaysia is a strategic move that can attract significant interest, especially given Malaysia’s experience in urban development projects. Highlighting its potential as a hub for finance, tourism, and innovation could resonate well with Malaysian investors. For the December education event, collaborating with an international scholar could add significant value, drawing attention to Sri Lanka’s commitment to educational advancement and innovation.
This meeting reflects a strong commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka-Malaysia relations through impactful trade and tourism initiatives.
