COLOMBO — The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) is the country’s largest female-led volunteer organisation for girls and young women. SLGGA celebrated 107 years of proud service to the nation on Thursday March 21.
Guiding was introduced to Sri Lanka in 1917 by Miss Jennie Calverley, a young teacher from England who joined the school staff of Girls’ High school Kandy where the first Guide Company was formed. The Jennie Calverley Green Oration is held to honour and celebrate this visionary personality. Prof. Arosha Adikaram of the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, delivered the 3rd Jennie Calverley Green Oration at this occasion.
The celebrations marked a significant milestone of the association as the new website was unveiled during the event. The website was formally inaugurated by Mr. Conrad Dias, Director of LOLC Holdings PLC, Chairman of LOLC Finance PLC, and Chairman of LOLC Technology Limited.

The Chief Commissioner, Dr. Kushantha Herath The Chief Commissioner, Dr. Kushantha Herath, The Deputy Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Nirmalee William and the Assistant Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Nanduni Wickramatunga along with the members from all Branches, which includes Butterflies, Little Friends, Guides, Rangers, Guides from the Branch for Guides with Disabilities, Commissioners and Presidents past and present and members of the National Executive Committee were all present at the event.
