COLOMBO — The Memon Association of Sri Lanka had organised an event titled ” The First Generation ” where elders of the community were invited to narrate their stories of migration from their homeland Gujarat and their early years in Sri Lanka after migration. it was held at the Memon Association Auditorium, Colpetty, Colombo recently.
The chief guest at the event was Tower Hall Foundation Member of the Board of Directors Hassim Omar and the panel of speakers were Abdul Sattar Katliya, Anver Ahmed Ranavavawala, Jicker Cassim Mandai, Siddique Ahmed Bhabhu and Ahmed Abdur Rahman Fathani were present. It was moderated by Sameer Yoonus.
The panel of speakers were asked questions about life and times in Kutiyana, the hometown of majority memons in Sri Lanka and their experiences in escaping the persecution there, settling into Sri Lanka and adapting to life over here.
The discussion was well received and added to by 100 participants who attended the event.
Chief Guest Hassim Omar thanked the panel of speakers for narrating their experiences and handed over tokens of appreciations to all of them.
