COLOMBO :Lanka Sathosa has reduced the prices of nine essential consumer food commodities with effect from Thursday (21) March. Consumers can now buy these food items at the reduced prices from any of the Lanka Sathosa outlets across the country.
Accordingly, the price of Big Onions per kilo has been reduced by Rs.100 from the previous price of Rs.650 and the new price per kilo is Rs.550. A kilo of Red Cowpea is now sold at Rs.998 reducing Rs.52 from its previous price of Rs.1,050. White Cowpea has seen a drop of Rs.50 with the new price set at Rs. 1,100 per kilo from its previous price of Rs.1,150.
Basmati rice which was sold at Rs.670 per kilo is now sold at Rs.650 making a reduction in price of Rs.20 by Sathosa. Price of a kilo of Red Onions has dropped from its previous amount of Rs.360 to Rs.350 offering a reduction of Rs. 10 to consumers.
White Sugar is now sold at Rs. 265 per kilo where price has reduced by Rs.5 from the previous price of Rs.270 and the price of one kilo of Brown sugar also has been reduced by Rs.5 from the previous rate of Rs. 430 and is now sold at Rs.425.
Soya meat (unflavoured) which was sold at Rs.600 per kilo has seen a drop of Rs.5 and is now sold at Rs. 595. Price of Red Kekulu rice per kilo has been reduced by Rs.2 from its previous price of Rs.170 and is now sold at Rs.168.
