Religious leaders discuss formation of “National Unity Foundation of Sri Lanka”

COLOMBO — Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry Prime Minister’s Coordinators of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Ven. Dr. Agrahera Kassapa Nayaka Thero (Buddhist Affairs), Siva Shri Dr. Babu Sharma Kurukkal (Hindu Affairs),  Al-Haj Dr. As-Seyyed Hassan Maulana (Muslim Affairs) and Rev.  Dr. Sixtus Kurukulasuriya (Christian Affairs)   paid a visit to the Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, Kelaniya to meet Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Nayaka Thero, the Founder of this Institute and who is also the International Advisor to President on Religious and Cultural Affairs.

During this meeting, special discussions were held on future initiatives to strengthen national unity and religious harmony. It was also discussed about the motive to provide an opportunity for the clergy to work together and master the language under the theme ‘Unity between the Hindu, Islam and Christian religious leaders with the Maha Sangharathnaya. There were also lengthy discussions on the establishment of an organization called the “National Unity Foundation of Sri Lanka” and the strengthening of inter-ethnic unity and religious reconciliation through that foundation.
