COLOMBO – India were 15 for no loss when rain halted play in the fifth over of this high-octane 2023 Asia Cup Limited Overs Cricket Tournament Group ‘A’ clash between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on Saturday.
Skipper Rohit Sharma was batting on 11 from 18 deliveries having already struck two boundaries while his partner Shubman Gill was yet to open his account having faced eight deliveries.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first with the match starting on time at 3.00 p.m. local time despite the inclement weather in and around the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.
Pakistan opened the bowling attack with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah with the former conceding two boundaries during his spell of 2.2 overs Shah gave away only three runs in his two overs.
India and Pakistan have not faced each other in a One-Day International (ODI) since their showdown at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, where India thrashed Pakistan by 89 runs.
India and Pakistan will share a point each if their Asia Cup 2023 match in Pallekele is washed out on Saturday.
Chief scores:
India: 15/0 in 4.2 overs vs Pakistan.
