COLOMBO: Zahira College Colombo Welfare Society organized a “Remembrance & Gratitude Event” recently, in memory of Marhoom Deshamanya Professor M.T.M.Furkhan at “Furkhan Hall” in the college..
In actuality, Prof. Furkhan is the only old boy to put up a modern building in the Primary section consisting of 26 classrooms at his Alma Mater with his own funds
A galaxy of eminent personalities and old Zahirians’ including Mr. Fouzul Hameed, Chairman of the Board of Governors graced the occasion.
The event commenced with the recital of the Quran and dua for the dearly departed soul of Prof.Furkhan (Quran Thamam).
The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. M.Azreen Zaheer, president of the Z.C.C. Welfare Society. He outlined Prof Furkhan’s selfless contribution to the development of Zahira for more than 50 years, with dedication and commitment. He further stressed that Prof Furkhan was instrumental in establishing the Zahira Motor Garage that helped provide Technical education for talented students of Zahira.
The Principal, Trizvy Marikkar further noted that it was Prof. Furkhan who introduced English Medium at Zahira under his visionary leadership, and as a result of his farsightedness, this year, all 5 students from the English Medium have gained admission to Medical faculties.
Guest speaker, Mr.Munshif Hussain, a former member of the Board of Governors who is closely associated with Prof Furkhan made a lucid presentation about his academic brilliance with anecdotes.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Niyaz Aboobucker, VP of the ZCC of Welfare Committee and he profusely thanked all the participants.
M.T.M. Ariff, Hony Secretary of ZCC Welfare Committee coordinated the event. The meeting ended on a lighthearted note with a sumptuous lunch.
