COLOMBO (News 1st); In 2015 during a Gammadda program, a 13-year-old Jeewantha Rathnayake from Kalugollagama, Galunbindunuwewa made to restore his sight, and this appeal brought tears to the eyes of many.
Rohitha Rajapaksa, son of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had come across a video clip with the boy making a request and brought it to the attention of his mother, the Former First Lady.
Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa had made arrangements for the young boy to visit Colombo and obtain an appointment with one of the leading Ophthalmologists in Sri Lanka.
Jeewantha Rathnayake was subject to a series of tests at the Colombo Eye Hospital and based on the test reports, the specialist Ophthalmologist had ruled that Jeewantha’s vision can be restored without a transplant.
On Wednesday (28) several months after the tests Jeewantha Rathnayake visited Temple Trees to meet with the Prime Minister.
Doctors have now been able to give vision to one eye without transplanting an eye to Jeewantha.
The Prime Minister’s wife also paid for all the expenses.
