SANDASEN MARASINGHE

COLOMBO Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa promised to reciprocate the confidence and trust placed in him by the people of the country and those of Kurunegala by working for their well-being.

The Prime Minister thanked the people in Kurunegala for extending their support and helping him secure a record-breaking 527,364 Preferential Votes, the highest number of votes a candidate had ever received from a single district in the country’s political history. He also thanked the other SLPP Kurunegala district contestants who worked hard by supporting him to secure the highest number of votes, the organizers who organized the rallies and other supporters for their perseverance in helping the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna achieve this historic victory.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa added that the 2020 General Election is the 9th General Election that he faced during his five decade span of his political life. He also thanked the voters of Kurunegala for giving a bigger mandate to them than they achieved at the 2015 General Election.

He also said that the issues faced by the people of Kurunegala were discussed in detail by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, government officials and himself.

He said that this is the opportune moment to make President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Vision of Prosperity Policy Programme a reality. He added that everyone irrespective of party and other differences should join hands to develop the country.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa made these observations in a statement to thank the people of Kurunegala for extending their support and placing their confidence by casting a massive number of votes.
