COLOMBO- Unknown men had brutally killed a Pakistani national, who has been living in the western coastal town of Negombo on Tuesday night.
The victim, Mohammed Yakoob Butt ,49, had been living in Dalupotha, in the Negombo district since July this year till this tragedy occurred.
Confirming the incident, the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, said that it is following up the matter with the concerned authorities.
On visiting the site of the murder, Acting Negombo Magistrate, Swarna Perera pronounced it as a homicide and instructed the Area Superintendent of Police,Kapila Katupitiya to proceed with the investigations to find the killers instrumental to the death.
According to the copy of his passport given to the landlord , the deceased was born on January,1,1970, and had rented an upstair apartment from July this year.
According to the neighbors, the incident would have taken place around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, when they heard some unusual noise from the upstair apartment. Eye-witnesses said that they had seen two men rushing in a vehicle from the scene of the incident.
It was revealed that the victim was a UNHCR asylum seeker, who had sustained multiple injuries due to persistent stabbings on all parts of the body.
It was alleged that the killers were from the same community, based on the account of a witness who had overheard an argument between the victim and another person in the same language. ( Pakistani dialect). Photo courtesy Metro News
