COLOMBO: For the second consecutive day, Pakistan High Commission in Colombo organized a programme to distribute dry rations to the needy at the Maligawatte ar Pradeepa Hall in Colombo on Tuesday,June 7.
The Chief Guest at the event was the current High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd.) Umar Farooq Burki.
.“Sri Lanka and Pakistan have a long and strong history of friendly relations. As a country, we are always committed to providing the necessary assistance to Sri Lanka always. As Muslims, we are guided by our Islamic Religious teachings to give away such as Zakat and Sadaka to help the poor or needy in the society. Therefore, those who have should be given the necessary support in such cases.” High Commissioner Burki said.
Subsequently, the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Major General (Retd.) Umar Farooq Burki distributed a stock of dry rations to several deserving families in the Maligawatta area
The event was attended by Faisal Ali Khan, Community Affairs Representative of the High Commission of Pakistan, Ms. Kulsum Qaiser, Media Coordinator of the High Commission of Pakistan and other local politicians as well as people of the area.
“The Pakistan High Commission has launched this dry food distribution program through various organizations across the country. Pakistan has been friendly with Sri Lanka since ancient times,said Colombo Municipal Councilor Kalilur Rahman.
