Travel ban on Champika Ranawaka

COLOMBO : The Colombo High Court today issued a travel ban on former MP Patali Champika Ranawaka and his driver Thusith Dilum Kumara.

The High Court judge has ordered the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to refrain from issuing new passports to the defendant.

Cabinet approves ban on cattle slaughter

COLOMBO : The Cabinet of Ministers has approved to ban cattle slaughter in the country.

The proposal was tabled by the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Landslide warning

COLOMBO :The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 1 (yellow) landslide early warning for parts of Kegalle and Ratnapura districts. They are:
 

NBRO has warned that should residents see development of cracks, ground subsidence, slanting of trees, cracks on floors built on slopes, sudden appearance of springs or muddy water should alert the authorities.

Supreme Court begins hearing of petitions against 20th Amendment bill

COLOMBO: Supreme Court commences its hearing regarding the Constitutionality of the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Thirty nine Special Determination petitions have been filed so far against the twentieth amendment to the Constitution.

Accordingly, these petitions will be heard before a five-judge-Bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Justice Sisira de Abrew, Justice Priyantha Jayawardena and Justice Vijith Malalgoda.
