COLOMBO – The Nepal Embassy in Colombo organized Tourism Promotion Event at Maradha Hotel Colombo on Friday February 16. It was held under the patronage of Ambassador of Nepal in Sri Lanka Bashu Dev Mishra.
Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma, Chairman of the KP Hidings made a presentation on tourism promotion in Nepal.
Tourism is one of the mainstays of the Nepalese Economy. It is also a major source of foreign exchange and revenue. Possessing 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world, Nepal is a hotspot destination for mountaineers, rock climbers and people seeking adventures. The Hindu, Buddhist and other cultural heritage sites of Nepal, and around the year fair weather are also strong attractions.
The government of Nepal declared 2011 to be Nepal Tourism Year, The tourist industry is seen as a way to alleviate poverty and achieve greater social equity in the country.
Representatives from local travel agencies, embassy official’s and media personnel were also present.
