COLOMBO : The police arrested a two Indian and a Sri Lankan on Monday,Oct.11 for possessing a contraband of 223 Indian StarTortoises that are kept for smuggling into nearby countries.
Following the information received by the Negombo Police Station Officer-in-Charge Wattegama, the Crime Prevention Division Officer-in-Charge Ratnayake led the police constable Thushara, Fernando and Amal to the Negombo-Copra junction.
During a search operation carried out in a four-story building, the police discovered some 223 Star Tortoises wrapped in a “Rigifoam” boxes on the fourth floor. Police arrested two Indians and a Sri Lankan who were present at the site/.
