Muslims conduct religious observances for the 75th  I’Day

COLOMBO – Sri Lankan gained independence from colonial rule because of the concerted efforts made by Sri Lankans from all communities in Sri Lanka, Environment Minister Naseer Ahamed said on Saturday Feb.4

The minister was speaking at a religious ceremony held at the Colombo Grand Mosque organized by the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs to mark the 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Director Faizal Abdeen delivered the welcome address, while Foreign Minister Ali Sabry who made the opening remarks had to rush to his ministry to receive eight foreign dignitaries who were attending the Saturday’s state celebrations.

Speaking further, Minister Ahamed recalled that Muslims have contributed a great deal in developing the nation and they have proved themselves as successful traders from the early times. He said President Ranil Wickremesinghe had come forward to save the nation during this economic crisis and all communities should join him to uplift the country to raise its head from the present problem.

Special Dua (prayers) were conducted by Colombo Grand Mosque Imam Moulavi Ahamed Sufi and Moulavi Sameem Ajwadi  in Tamil and Sinhala languages.   

Assistant Directors M. L. M. Anwer Ali,M. S. Ala  Ahamed, Programme Coordinator Ash Sheik M.M.M.Mufthi, Ash Seyed Dr. Hassan Moulana, Colombo Grand Mosque Chairman Thawfik Zubyre, Trustees of the Mosque and Department Officials were present.
