Mujib comes out and Fowzie goes into parliament

COLOMBO: Mujibur Rahman MP, announced his resignation from his post of parliamentarian since his party Samagi Jana Balawegaya  had appointed him as the mayoral candidate at the upcoming CMC elections in Colombo for which the nominations will close on Wednesday.

Addressing the parliament on Friday, Rahman said that he was leaving the parliament since his party has nominated him as a mayoral candidate for Colombo Municipal Council. He said he came to the parliament with 87,000 votes from Colombo Central electorate. He is hopeful that he would win the local elections representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

Former minister and one-time Colombo mayor A H M Fowzie will succeed Rahman in the parliament since he got the next highest number of preferential votes at the last elections.

Fowzie is slated to meet the Election Commission on Saturday,Jan 21, to process the formalities for this entry to the parliament.
