COLOMBO : Sri Lankans were crowded at the Indonesian Pavilion at the Celebration of Vesak Day “Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Festival” on 5-7 May, 2023 near Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo. In the Pavilion, visitors saw the miniature and video of Borobudur Temple.
Visitors were amazed to learn the Borobudur Temple as the largest Buddhist temple in the world, that located in Central Java, Indonesia. Borobudur Temple that was built in the 8th and 9th centuries has become the magnificent ancient site and has been recognized by UNESCO as the World Heritage.
Visitors and their families were delighted to take pictures in front of the miniature of Borobudur Temple inside the Indonesian Pavilion. The Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Dewi Gustina Tobing and staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo explained to visitors about the Borobudur Temple.
The 3-day Vesak Festival was soft inaugural by the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe on May 3, 2023 at Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo. After the inauguration, President Ranil Wickremensinghe also visited the Indonesian Pavilion.
During the Festival, many other dignitaries also visited Indonesian Pavilion including the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dinesh Gunawardena, the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Member of Parliament Yadamini Gunawardena, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Vidura Wicremanayake and many more.
