GAMPOLA: The Manchester and the Red Sun Sports Club will meet at the finals of the MAYORS CUP this year on Jan15 in Gampola.
The tourney was organized by The Traveller Global (Pvt) Ltd in association with the Gampola local government body.
The semifinals were played with such enthusiasm and energy on the 7th and 8th of January at Weegulawatha, Grounds. The first Semifinal between Crystal Palace FC and Manchester FC was a fight of attrition, with both sides playing a controlled and calculated game till the last moments of the match. The stalemate was broken when the Manchester FC scored the only goal in the final minutes of the match.
The second semifinal match was extremely entertaining as both teams made sure no errors were made and no quarter given. Both teams performed brilliantly until the final whistle. The excitement of a penalty shootout was such a treat for the hundreds of fans gathered at the ground. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and hope, as the supporters chanted and cheered on the clubs. The semifinal ended with the Red Sun FC winning the semifinals.
With both teams equally matched, the finals on Sunday, January 15 will be a delight for all football fans in and around the hill capital with a large number expected to turnout.
