Welcome Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Imran Khan is the 22nd and current Prime Minister of Pakistan. He has been a staunch advocate of peace and harmony across the globe. He believes in bringing nations of Pakistan and Sri Lanka together through sports and tourism. As much as the beauty of Sri Lanka is a world attraction for tourism, Pakistan has its own diverse land scape to offer for tourists of all categories.

Travel and tourism has great association with other industries in the national economy making major indirect earns and also enhances foreign investment, opportunities of trade, investments in private, local development, and public infrastructure. Pakistan has rich potential of tourism due to its rich culture, geographical and biological diversity, and history. Tourism has developed as an instrument for creating considerable economic gains. The country has various tourist destinations at Swat, MalamJabba, Behrain, Kalam, Shangla, Balakot, Kaghan, Naran, Ayoubia, Murree, Chitral, Gilgit Baltistan, Hunza, and Neelam valleys, other mountainous ranges, and historical and archaeological sites. Pakistan has great potential and offers diverse opportunities for tourists, such as trout fishing in the glacial water of GilgitBaltistan and Swat rivers, Shandur Polo traditional tournament, paragliding, rock climbing, and trekking in northern areas, Jeep and camel safari in the Cholistan desert, wild boar hunting, and crabbing in the Arabian Sea.

Tourism is a fast growing industry in the world, due to its importance and economic significance. Sri Lanka also emphasizes on its contribution to the future development goals. Tourism is in a significance position in generation of income, foreign exchange and provision of employment opportunities. Sri Lanka, being a Buddhist majority country, can enjoy a good deal of tourism in Pakistan as Pakistan owns world’s largest well preserved remains of Gandhara civilization.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan deems tourism and culture sector as one of the most important tools for strengthening friendly ties between the two countries. We hope that this visit will prove very fruitful in bringing the peoples of the two friendly countries closer and help in strengthening tourism and cultural ties with each other.
