Lankan woman dies in a fire in Abu Dhabi

COLOMBO: A Sri Lanka woman was among the six people who died in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Bani Yas in Abu Dhabi.

General Manager of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Gamini Senarath told News 1st that the woman in question had gone to Abu Dhabi for employment on a tourist visa in 2021.

He said that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Abu Dhabi is working on ascertaining the identity of the deceased.

He also added that information with regard a report that a Sri Lankan woman died after falling off a high-rise in Malaysia is being obtained via the Sri Lankan High Commission in Malaysia.

However, he said no definite information is available over such an incident.

Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that a complaint had been filed with the Kobeigane Police citing that a 42-year-old woman had died in Malaysia.
