Lankan woman arrested with 4892 grams of 24 carat gold at airport

NEGOMBO: Customs officers at the Colombo International Airport arrested a woman at Katunayake Airport for illegally smuggling gold in the form of various bank cards.

According to Customs sources, the seized gold was worth some Rs 110 million. The jewellery included 24 carat gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, 27 pieces of gold in the form of bank cards and eight capsules of gold dust.

The woman who was arrested on a tiptip-off had arrived here at Colombo airport from Dubai,via India by Air India flight no 273 on Saturday,Jan.14 .

The Gampaha police are continuing their investigations while the woman is in the remand custody
