Our longstanding friendship continues to evolve and strengthen since Sri Lanka’s Independence, built on our shared values, people to people links and common interests in the Commonwealth and the Indian Ocean region. Growing collaboration in areas ranging from education to trade, defence to border security, as well as shared efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic challenge, are but a few examples of our enriched and deepening friendship. On behalf of the people of Australia, it is my privilege to celebrate this day with you in Sri Lanka.”
