GENEVA : On Tuesday,March 23, Korea expressed its position on the UN resolution regarding Sri Lanka in UN Human Rights Council in Geneva as follows ,according to a press release issued here in Colombo on Wednesday:
The Republic of Korea notes with appreciation that the Government of Sri Lanka has engaged in various efforts to promote national reconstruction and prosperity.
We also acknowledge the Government of Sri Lanka’s progress in its commitment and contribution in the field of rebuilding infrastructure, demining, resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs), and rehabilitating former child soldiers after the devastating conflicts.
We note that Sri Lanka successfully held the presidential election in November 2019, followed by the general election in August 2020 in a transparent and democratic manner.
The Republic of Korea welcomes the Government of Sri Lanka’s reaffirmation of its engagement with the UN system and the UN human rights mechanisms. We trust that the Government of Sri Lanka will achieve further advances in reconstruction, reconciliation, and accountability at the earliest possible time.
