COLOMBO: Sri Lanka U19 beat Bangladesh U19, 5 – 0 in a thrilling one day series played at Dambulla. Sri Lanka comprehensively won all 5 matches against the U-19 limited overs cricket world champions Bangladesh. Most matches did go to the wire making it a thrilling series and good experience for the Under 19 players.
Fourth Youth ODI – Sri Lanka U19 Vs Bangladesh U19
With already 3 matches in the bag Sri Lanka U-19 were keen to proceed for a white wash at Dambulla to make this one of the most memorable series. Bangladesh winning the toss opted to bat first and scored 224 for the fall of 8 wickets (50 overs). Bangladesh U19 captain Meherob and Ariful Islam contributed with half centuries. Raveen de Silva was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs. Chasing the mediocre score , Sri Lanka did put themselves in to the backfoot at 31 for 2 wickets in the 7th over with both openers out. Raveen de Silva turned out to be the saviour with 88 runs off 100 balls ( 9 fours and 1 Six) to take Sri Lanka close to the target. After some heart stopping moment Sri Lanka won the match by 1 wicket with Sasanka Nirmal hitting the winning run with only 3 balls to spare. A thrilling encounter that ended with Sri Lanka winning its 4th match in the series.
Fifth Youth ODI – Sri Lanka U19 Vs Bangladesh U19
The 5th match held in Dambulla was also a close knit match with Sri Lanka securing a win by 4 runs. Batting first Sri Lanka scored 240 runs for 9 wickets off 50 overs powered by a century from Chaminda Wickramasinghe (102 off 123 balls). He played brilliant shots and paced his innings well. Chaminda hit 10 fours and 3 sixers in his innings. He was ably supported by Shevon Daniels with a knock of 59.
Bangladesh openers Mahfijiul Islam (62 runs) and Hossain (32 runs) gave a solid start with an opening wicket stand of 67. Aich Mollah also tried to keep the middle order steady with 55 runs contribution. However the Bangladesh U19 tail could not hold up to the Sri Lankan bowling attack and eventually got bowled out in the last bowl of the innings for 236. Captain Dunith Wellalage bowled economically and effectively to pick 2 wickets for 38 runs off 10 overs. Vinuja Ranpul also picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs off 5 overs. Sri Lanka won the match by 4 runs and won the series 5-0.
