COLOMBO : The 74th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association was held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Education at Isurupaya in Battaramulla on Friday 22nd March 2024.
The elections of new office bearers for the year 2024 was enthusiastically held in the presence of over 480 delegates of the schools that play active cricket across the island.
The election was held under the chairmanship of the Director of the Sports Units of the Ministry of Education Athula Jayawardane.
Last year Deputy President and Principal of Isipathana College, Oshara Panditharathna, (SLEAS-1) was elected with 265 votes. His rival, the Principal of Kalarathna College Ambalangoda secured 199 votes for this honorary post. OuP.A. Leelananda Kumarasiri of Theranpathana National School of Hambantota who has been the Assistant Secretary for the last nine years became the Secretary by getting 256 votes. His rival contestant could receive only 153 votes.
For the post of Deputy President Royal College contested against D.S. Senanayake College Colombo and the Principal of Royal College Thilak Wathurahewa became victorious by getting 278 votes. The Principal of D.S. Senanayake Sampath Weragoda was able to get only 165 votes. D.M. Rajaratnam of Lumbini College who held the post of Treasurer was elected uncontested for the present year. J.A.K.S. Indrajith of Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya has got the post of Assistant Secretary with 230 votes. His rival contestant managed to get only 33 votes. Last year’s Technical Officer, Saman Hettiarachi of Ananda College continue to hold this post as his rival, Suraj de Silva of Revattha M.M.V, Balapitiya could collect only 104 votes as against his votes of 164. PyGaneshan Kumaran of Madeena National School of Madawala was elected uncontested for the post of Translator. He held this post last year as well.
There are 5 Vice Presidents who were elected covering all the main regions of Sri Lanka where school cricket is actively played. In addition, the district representatives for all 25 districts were also elected at this AGM. It is hoped that school cricket will immensely flourish this year as many new schools are expected to send their entries for registration under different age categories.
The following were elected for these positions
- Prasanna Seneviratne- Principal- Vidyaloka College-Galle- 217 votes
- Susantha Mendis- Principal- Science College -Mt. Lavania-194 votes
- Lal Dissanayaka- Principal. Ananda College, Colombo- 166 votes
- Virajith Kadawathura- Principal-St. Serviyas College Matara-154
- S.M.C. Weerakoon-Principal-Rahula College-Katugastota-142 votes
