Indonesia to strengthen people to people contacts with Sri Lanka- Envoy

COLOMBO- Indonesia is keen on strengthening the people to people relations with Sri Lanka, said Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia recently.

In an informal meeting with the envoy and the Chief Editor of Colombo Times and the writer, the high commissioner said :” I would like to express my hope that the enhanced people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka will serve as a foundation for a more connected, collaborative, and peaceful world.”

“ I would like to encourage all of you to take the initiative in promoting greater understanding and cooperation between our two nations, and to continue working towards a brighter future for our people,” she added.

She recalled that Indonesia and Sri Lanka have a long history of friendship and cultural exchange, dating back to ancient times. This rich cultural heritage has left a lasting impact on both our nations and serves as a testament to the strong ties that exist between us.

As an envoy of my government,she said : “It is my duty to strengthen these ties and build bridges between our people. We can do this by promoting cultural exchange, education, and shared experiences that bring us together and break down barriers that divide us. We must also play a role in resolving conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue, and work towards a more peaceful and cooperative world.”

“ I am proud to say that Indonesia and Sri Lanka are already taking steps towards enhanced people-to-people relations. We have a number of initiatives and programs aimed at fostering greater understanding and cooperation, such as cultural festivals, student exchanges, and volunteer opportunities. These programs provide a platform for individuals to come together and learn about each other’s cultures, traditions, and beliefs, creating a foundation for a more connected and peaceful world,” she not

“ Let us not stop with this. It is important that we continue our efforts to deepen the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
