COLOMBO: Visiting Indian Foreign Secretary, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla who visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on Sunday morning on Oct.3, told newsmen the temple is significant to Sri Lanka as well as to India because of its religious importance.
The Indian Foreign Secretary arrived in the country following an invitation extended by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Secretary, Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage on Saturday,October 2.
Shringla visited Tricomalee and Jaffna on Sunday and he will be in Colombo on Monday in time to meet the prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in the evening.
Indian Foreign Secretary visited Trinco oil tank farm on Sunday where LIOC briefed him on developments undertaken at Lower Tank Farms & the possibilities for further strengthening India-Sri Lanka energy partnership to enhance Sri Lanka’s energy security – Indian High Commission in Colombo
On arrival at Jaffna, the Secretary was extended a warm welcome by Indian Consul Geberal in Jaffna and Chairman, Northern Provincial Council, C.V.K Sivagnanam. Officials from Civil Aviation Authority briefed hin about the development and rehabilitation of Palaly Airport.
He also visited the iconic Jaffna Cultural Centre built with Indian grant. The iconic, state of the art cultural centre will help people of Northern Province reconnect with their roots and in nurturing their shared cultural heritage. He is also due to meet with the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris and and Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa during his visit.
