ICC Men’s T20 WC: Match 9– Bangladesh enters Super 12s with 84 runs win over PNG

MUSCAT : Round 1 match: Bangladesh cruised to a 84 run win and more importantly to the Super 12s after an all-round performance. This performance wipes away the nightmare Bangladesh faced in the first match against Scotland.

Bangladesh batting first scored 181 for 7 wickets off 20 overs with Mahmudullah (50) and Shakib Al Hasan (46) batting with grit. It was clear with the set score Bangladesh was eager to win with a large margin to improve the net run rate.

Papua New Guinea only reached 97 off 19.3 overs with Kiplin Doriga scoring unbeaten 46 runs. Shakib Al Hasan displayed amazing bowling spell and too 4 wickets for just 9 runs off his 4 overs. Taskin Ahamed also bowled well to pick up 2 wickets for 12 runs.

Bangladesh determined performance saw their experienced players giving their fullest to ensure Bangladesh qualifies to the Super 12s. Bangladesh will end up being the second team in Group B with Scotland on top of the table since they won all three matches. Accordingly, Bangladesh will meet the Group A table toppers ( most probably Sri Lanka) in their first match under the Super 12s league on Sunday,  October 24 as per current schedule. (RZ)
