COLOMBO : On a Complain made by Former Governor And Leader NUA M Azath S Salley & others Hon. judge Aditya patabendi of Colombo High Court Sentenced Galaboda Atthe Gnasara Thero for 4 years Imprisonment with fines
Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment for the defamatory comments made against Islam eight years ago.
The verdict was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige on Thursday (March 28) while imposing a fine of Rs. 100,000 on the monk.
Gnanasara Thero is accused of making defamatory comments against Islam during a 2016 media briefing convened on the Kuragala ancient Buddhist monastery, causing damage to national and religious harmony.
He was convicted for both charges in Indictment
1) 2 years rigorous Imprisonment, Rs 50,000 fine
2) 2 years Imprisonment, Rs 50,000 fine
Both Imprisonment execute separately (4 years)
The case was filed by Azath Salley through his Attorney Rusdhi Habibi and his team
